    How to play: Scraps

    Post by Alexis Rhodes on Sat May 09, 2015 9:47 am

    Now with these kind of posts it can bring a massive load of controversy, as every one has, and is entitled to, their own opinion. However, i've been playing the deck for a long time and I feel I can bring appropriate guidance to the table. If you do have any other pieces of advice, just drop a reply Smile

    Scraps
    How to play them

    Scraps first Debuted in the Duelist Revolution pack back in 2010. But despite their age they still have the potential to be in the competitive scene, obviously not 1 of your top tiers, but these guys can be explosive!
    Scraps are all EARTH monsters, and contrary to popular belief they are NOT Machine-Type monsters, the vast majority of them are in fact beast. These cards unlike anything before it all base around destroying themselves to get pluses, which you know gives the name "Scrap" a pretty legit reason for being named that. The main objective of a scrap deck is Synchro Summoning, despite their obvious potential to XYZ summon, the Synchro monsters effects are definitely still more relevant to the deck.
    The vast majority of decent Scrap cards are all tuners. but the non-tuners they do have are so good you don't need too many of them, as well as this they are easily searchable with "Scrap Factory" and "Scrapstorm". On the other side to that the tuner half has their own make-shift ROTA in the form of "Scrapyard" this means that the deck is pretty consistent.

    The deck focuses around destroying their own monsters, so you may be asking how do they do this? The main few cards are "Scrap Orthros", "Scrap Goblin", "Scrapstorm", "Scrap Dragon", "Scrap Twin Dragon" and you are looking to run at least 2 of all these cards. "Atomic Scrap Dragon" is a card that can be put under this hat, however isn't personally recommended by me. If you wish to adjust your deck to fit it in, by all means go ahead Smile

    So that's it for the basics next is for the key cards

    Scrap Chimera:

    non-tuner
    This card cannot be used as a Synchro Material Monster, except for the Synchro Summon of a "Scrap" monster and all the other Synchro Material Monsters must also be "Scrap" monsters. When this card is Normal Summoned, you can select 1 "Scrap" Tuner monster in your Graveyard and Special Summon it.

    For me, this is the best Solo card in the deck. The ability to be a 1 card Scrap Dragon/Scrap Archfiend is amazing, obviously it has downsides as it can only be used for a Scrap Synchro monster, but even still this is the card you want to make sure you have in your hand at all times.

    Scrap Beast:

    tuner
    If this face-up Defense Position card is targeted for an attack, at the end of the Battle Phase: Destroy this card. If this card is destroyed by the effect of a "Scrap" card and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 "Scrap" monster in your Graveyard, except "Scrap Beast"; add that target to your hand.

    This is the main tuner of the deck (debatable) his self destruction effect isn't really used. and his recycling effect is on all of the tuners. However. he is the only lvl 4 tuner that you can normal summon without having a cost in his effect. This makes him incredibly versitile and a great target card for "Scrap Orthros" and "Scrapstorm"

    Scrap Golem:

    Once per turn, you can select 1 Level 4 or lower "Scrap" monster in your Graveyard and Special Summon it to either player's side of the field.

    I could not sing this guys praises enough! He is insanely good, his only downside is that he is lvl 5. Which is also a massive upside too! You do not want to draw into this card but if you can bring him out using factory you can usually bring out two powerful synchros that turn!

    Scrap Goblin:

    This card cannot be destroyed by battle. If this face-up Defense Position card is selected as an attack target, destroy this card at the end of the Battle Phase. If this card is destroyed by the effect of a "Scrap" card and sent to the Graveyard, you can select 1 "Scrap" monster in your Graveyard, except "Scrap Goblin" and add it to your hand.

    this card is great as if you set this card face down your opponent will seldom be able to do any LP damage that turn, and not only that when he is destroyed at the end of the BP (if he was attacked while face-up) you can add back a "Scrap Chimera" to your hand

    Scrap Orthros:

    This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by controlling a face-up "Scrap" monster. When Special Summoned this way, select 1 face-up "Scrap" monster you control, and destroy it. If this card is destroyed by the effect of a "Scrap" card and sent to the Graveyard, you can select 1 "Scrap" monster in your Graveyard, except "Scrap Orthros", and add it to your hand.

    This card is great at small doses, he's good at getting your plays going, but can often be a dead draw. When combining with "Scrap Beast", and "Scrap Factory" this card is in it's true element.

    Scrap Factory:

    All "Scrap" monsters gain 200 ATK and DEF. When a face-up "Scrap" monster(s) on the field is destroyed by a card effect and sent to the Graveyard (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon 1 "Scrap" monster from your Deck. You can only use this effect of "Scrap Factory" once per turn.

    This card is the latest thing to be released into Scraps. and IT'S SO GOOD with the ability to special summon "Scrap Golem" from deck, this can allow for some crazy plays!

    Scrapstorm:

    Target 1 "Scrap" monster you control; send 1 "Scrap" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard, then draw 1 card, then destroy that monster.

    this is great if you're struggling to start, or you've over extended and need to get back into the game. Basically it's a lifeline. If you use this card with beast you have the ability to add Chimera to your hand. which is your Solo Scrap Dragon.

    Scrapyard:

    Add 1 "Scrap" Tuner monster from your Deck to your hand.

    This card is great for adding "Scrap Beast", "Scrap Orthros", "Scrap Goblin" to your hand. All help in different occasions. But like all basic searchers, it deck thins and sets up your plays

    Scrap Archfiend:

    Lvl 7 Synchro

    This isn't the best card, but just necessary if your only play is "Scrap Chimera" into "Scrap Goblin"

    Scrap Dragon:

    Lvl 8 Synchro
    Once per turn: You can target 1 card you control and 1 card your opponent controls; destroy them. When this card is destroyed by your opponent's card (either by battle or by card effect) and sent to the Graveyard: Target 1 non-Synchro "Scrap" monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target.

    Most people will know this card, but not many will know his 2nd effect when he's destroyed by an opponents card eff, you can SS "Scrap Golem" from your graveyard which lets you set up your plays again! And obviously can pop your opponents card, while plusing yourself.

    Scrap Twin Dragon:

    Lvl 9 Synchro
    Once per turn, you can select 1 card you control and 2 cards your opponent controls. Destroy the one you control and return the two your opponent controls to the hand. When this card is destroyed by your opponent's card (either by battle or by card effect) and sent to the Graveyard, select 1 non-Synchro "Scrap" monster in your Graveyard, and Special Summon it.

    This card is the exact identical to "Scrap Dragon" except it targets 2 opponent cards and send them to hand instead of destroying, which has it's perks if you're trying to get over "Beelze of the Diabloical Dragons" or "El Shaddoll Winda"

    Other considerable cards to run:
    "Level Eater": can be greatly used as a fodder for the effects of the "Scrap" Dragons;
    "Gigantes": is a beater that can be easily Special Summoned and can destroy all Spell/Trap Cards on the Field when destroyed by battle;
    "Gigastone Omega": can be easily Special Summoned, and you can destroy it by the effect of one of the "Scrap" Dragons in order to destroy all Spell/Trap cards your opponent controls;
    "Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders": you can use it to perform Xyz Summons, by using it alongside with "Scrap Archfiend", as well to Special Summon "Scrap" monsters from the Graveyard in order to perform Synchro Summons; if you discard a "Scrap" Tuner monster, you can revive it by using "Scrap Chimera".
    "Emergency Assistance": can revive a "Scrap" monster destroyed before the Main Phase 2;
    "Foolish Burial": can be used to set up the Graveyard with "Scrap" monsters to be recovered by the effect of another "Scrap";
    "Burial from a Different Dimension": can recover monsters banished by "Gigantes", "Gigastone Omega", "Redox" or "Guts of Steel";
    "Gozen Match": can be harmful to your opponent, if their deck may contain many Attributes, while this Deck will remain unharmed (if your opponent's deck have only 1 main Attribute and this card is a Main Deck card, rather than a Side Deck one, you can use it as fodder to one of the "Scrap" Dragons).
    "Archfiend Eater": combined with "Scrap Factory", it can trigger its effect.
    "Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest": can be easily Special Summoned if chained to the destroying effect of "Scrap Beast", "Orthros" or "Kong".
    "Meklord Emperor Wisel": Personally my favorite of the bunch. Can be easily Special Summoned when you card is destroyed, but can also negate an opponents Spell card once per turn. Plus can destroy Synchro decks
    "Terraforming": You need "Scrap Factory" so this card is key.

    Some plays you may need to know:

    With
    "Scrap Factory", "Scrapstorm", "Scrap Beast"

    One of your best opening hands.
    Activate Factory
    Summon Beast
    Activate storm
    Send chimera
    Draw 1
    destroy beast
    Factory and beast form a SEGOC
    SS Golem / Add chimera
    SS beast with Golem
    SS Scrap Twin Dragon

    With
    "Scrap Factory", "Scrap Beast", "Scrap Orthros"

    Activate factory
    summon beast
    SS Orthros
    destroy beast
    Factory effect
    SS Golem
    SS beast
    SS rank 4 XYZ / Scrap Twin Dragon

    With
    "Scrap Factory", "Scrap Goblin"

    Activate Factory
    Set Goblin

    on opponents turn if they attack Goblin twice
    Goblin is destroyed at End of BP
    SS Golem

    your turn.
    SS Goblin
    Make Scrap Dragon.

    With this logic, you can make your own decisions by what you have in hand with cards such as Scrapyard.
    Remember when you can, get Chimera into hand! It means you have a play for next turn.

    This isn't as indepth as it could have been so if you have any additional questions just ask Smile
