I have found that a lot of players do not quite understand the phrase "Missing the Timing" So I'm going to quickly do this post explaining what it's all about
Missing the Timing is when an *Optional Trigger Effect* misses it's chance to activate.
To locate an *Optional Trigger Effect* It will most often have this in the card text
When _____________________: You can _____________________.
So when something happens, you can do something. BUT if the last thing that happens isn't the requirement for activating (When ________) It cannot activate because it wasn't the last thing to happen. This is Missing the Timing.
Now there are a few examples of this where things might get confusing. So click the spoilers below to see examples of Missing the Timing, and Not Missing the Timing.
Now there are some instances where you can get confused with this. So now i'm going to lightly brush SEGOC (Simultaneous Events Go On Chain).
That is it for today's lesson! I hope you learnt something new
Now it is your chance to earn some RP!
HOMEWORK!!!!! (You Know You're Excited)
This is for all dorms so feel free to post.
You're homework for today is give me 1 example of missing the timing, and 1 example of not missing the timing. (for 50RP)
For a bonus 25RP Also give me an example of a SEGOC (not mandatory)
However there is a catch, you're NOT allowed to use an example someone else has already used

- Tin Goldfish and Green Gadget:
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 Level 4 monster from your hand.
When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can add 1 "Red Gadget" from your Deck to your hand.
So what we are doing here is Normal Summoning Tin Goldfish, then using his effect to Special Summon Green Gadget from our hand.
Question is:
Does Green Gadget's effect Miss the Timing?
No
The last thing to happen on Tin Goldfish's Effect. Is the Special Summoning of Green Gadget, allowing you to add the Red Gadget to your hand.
- Goblindbergh + Green Gadget:
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower monster from your hand, then change this card to Defense Position if you activated this effect.
When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can add 1 "Red Gadget" from your Deck to your hand.
So how about Goblindbergh?
We Normal Summon Golbindbergh, to Special Summon Green Gadget.
Does Green Gadget Miss the Timing?
Yes
Because this is what happens
Normal Summon "Goblindbergh" > Special Summon "Green Gadget" > Switch "Goblindbergh" to defense mode.
The last thing to happen here is switching Goblindbergh to defense mode. So Green Gadget is unable to search out Red Gadget
Now there are some instances where you can get confused with this. So now i'm going to lightly brush SEGOC (Simultaneous Events Go On Chain).
- Kagetokage + Green Gadget:
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. When you Normal Summon a Level 4 monster: You can Special Summon this card from your hand. This card cannot be used as a Synchro Material Monster.
When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can add 1 "Red Gadget" from your Deck to your hand.
So here is what happens. You Normal Summon Green Gadget, the last thing to activate is Green Gadget being Summoned so you can now use Green Gadget's effect to search, however it is still the proper activation time for Kagetokage, so Kagetokage will also activate it's effect so they will start a chain as they are both Spell Speed 1, because of this they SEGOC. As they go on the same chain. So both effects will resolve.
Why?
Well the first thing to happen is Green Gadget is summoned.
At this point, both "Kagetokage" and "Green Gadget" will both want to activate.
Because the last thing to happen was Green Gadgets summon, it will get it's search.
Because the last thing to happen was Green Gadgets summon, Kagetokage will be allowed to summon.
^They both happen Simultaneously
